Required permissions to activate your on-premises team tool license

Some of the JetBrains on-premises team tools require activation through JetBrains Account. For step-by-step activation instructions, refer to the documentation of your on-premises team tool. For example, here are the activation instructions for TeamCity.

During the activation, you’ll be asked to log in with your JetBrains Account. For successful activation, your account must have license management permissions.

If you purchased the license yourself as an individual or on behalf of an organization, you already have the required permissions. If someone else bought the license for your organization, you’ll need to check if you have the required permissions and request them if necessary.

If you purchased the license yourself

If you purchased your on-premises team tool license as an individual, the required permissions are already assigned to your email address. No additional steps are required.

When activating your tool, log in to your JetBrains Account using the email address you entered when purchasing your license. If you don’t yet have an account registered with this email address, you’ll need to create one.

If someone else purchased the license on behalf of your organization

If someone else in your organization purchased the license and asked you to activate it, you’ll need one of the following roles:

If you don’t have a JetBrains Account, you’ll need to create one first. If you’re not sure which permissions you have, contact your administrator to find out. 

Requesting the required permissions

If you don’t have the necessary permissions, you’ll need to request them from your organization administrator. You can use either of the following options:

Option 1. Follow the link in the purchase confirmation email

If your license was purchased less than 7 days ago and you have the purchase confirmation email, you can use the license view link in this email to request permissions.

  1. Open the purchase confirmation email and click the link to view and manage your licenses.
  2. On the license view page, click the Request permissions button.
  3. In the popup, enter your email address and click Request permissions.
    Use your work email address so that your administrator can easily identify you.
  4. You’ll receive a confirmation email as soon as your organization administrator approves your request.

Once you’ve received the confirmation email, you can proceed to activation. When activating, make sure to log in with the same email address to which you received the confirmation.

Option 2. Contact your administrator directly

You can contact your administrator directly and ask them to authorize you to activate the license.
