Update your PayPal payment details after a failed renewal
If your automatic renewal via PayPal fails, you’ll receive a failed payment notification. Your PayPal payments may fail for several reasons, including the following:
- The card linked to your PayPal account has expired.
- The card details are incomplete or incorrect.
- Your PayPal account or the card linked to it doesn’t have sufficient funds to complete the payment.
- Your PayPal account has been deleted or suspended.
However, if none of these apply and your auto-renewals via PayPal still fail, the connection between your JetBrains Account and your PayPal account may have expired. To resolve this, you’ll need to go to the checkout page and re-link your PayPal account to your JetBrains Account.
JetBrains never requests PayPal credentials except on the official checkout page at https://www.jetbrains.com/shop/.
Re-link your PayPal account to your JetBrains Account
- Open the failed payment notification and follow the link to renew your subscription manually. This will take you to the checkout page.
- At checkout, under PayPal, select Use a different PayPal account.
- Click the PayPal button and log in to your PayPal account. You don’t have to change accounts – feel free to use the same one. The goal is to re-establish the connection between your PayPal and JetBrains accounts.
- Once you’ve logged in, click Order and pay to complete the process.
That's it! Your PayPal account will be used for future subscription renewals. To avoid confusion or payment issues in the future, make sure to check the Payment Methods section of your JetBrains Account and remove any unused PayPal accounts.
Remove unused payment methods
If you’ve changed your PayPal account to a new one, your original PayPal account will remain linked to your JetBrains Account.
If you've reestablished a connection to an account already in use, you may see two instances of the same PayPal account under Payment Methods.
In both cases, your other JetBrains subscriptions may still be linked to the old PayPal instance. To avoid confusion or renewal issues in the future, make sure to delete the old instance of your PayPal account and replace it with the new one for all future payments.
