Why can’t I start a free trial of AI Assistant?

If you don’t see the option to start a free trial, here are some possible reasons why it’s not available.

You’re using an old version of your IDE

AI Assistant is available in version 2023.3 or later of most IDEs. Version 2024.1.1 is required for Community Edition IDEs.

Updating your IDE to the latest version may resolve the issue.

Your IDE license isn’t compatible with the free trial

If you’re using version 2023.3–2024.2 of your IDE, you can only start a trial if you have a paid IDE license. Starting from version 2024.2.1 this limitation no longer applies, so updating your IDE to the latest version may solve the issue.

Refer to the trial availability table to check whether you can start a free trial with your IDE license.

Additionally, if you're using version 2024.2.1 or later of an IDE with a non-paid license, we might ask you to add a payment method to your JetBrains Account before you can start a trial. Don't worry – the trial is still completely free, and you won't be charged during it or after it ends. Non-paid IDE licenses include:

You obtained your IDE license via License Vault, License Server, or IDE Services

If you’re using version 2023.3–2024.2 of your IDE, and your IDE license was obtained via License Vault, License Server, or IDE Services, you can’t start an AI Assistant free trial from your IDE. To try AI Assistant, talk to your employer about requesting a corporate trial.

AI Assistant is blocked in your company

By default, AI Assistant is blocked in all organizations. If your IDE is activated with a commercial license provided by your employer, ask your organization admin to enable AI Assistant in your company.

If your admin has already enabled AI Assistant but you still can’t use it, try following these steps to refresh your access settings.

Additionally, your organization has to accept the JetBrains AI Terms of Service before you can use AI Assistant.
