Why was my credit card rejected?

If your payment doesn’t go through, placing your order again may help. Still not working? Take a look at the possible causes below or try using a different payment method. 

If you can’t place an online order, you can also look into other purchasing options.

If the payment failed during auto-renewal, you’ll need to renew your subscription yourself using the link in the email we sent after the failed attempt. The system won’t retry the charge automatically, even if you update your payment details.

→ Your card has expired

Make sure your card is active. If your subscriptions renew automatically, you can switch to a different payment method anytime by following the steps for personal or commercial subscriptions.

→ Mismatched billing addresses

Payments may fail if the billing address you enter at checkout doesn’t match your card’s address. If you need to update the billing address saved with JetBrains and can’t do it at checkout, please contact us.

→ Insufficient funds or credit card limit reached

Make sure you have enough funds and that the purchase amount is within your card’s limit.

→ Your card doesn't support 3D Secure

European regulations require 3D Secure for online card payments. If your card isn’t enabled for 3D Secure, the payment provider may block the transaction to prevent fraud. Please contact your card issuer to resolve this.

What's 3D Secure? 

3D Secure adds another layer of protection for credit card purchases. You’ll need to complete a quick extra step, like entering a passcode on your bank’s site or typing in a code sent to your phone. It’s a lot like two-factor authentication.

What you can try on your own

Sometimes your browser’s cache and cookies, security settings, or network issues can keep the checkout page from redirecting to your bank’s site. To get around this, try:

  • Clearing your browser cache and cookies
  • Switching to incognito/private mode
  • Using another browser or computer

→ Your card isn't authorized for international transactions 

Depending on your location, a payment provider from another country may process your transaction. Please contact your bank to make sure that your card is authorized for international transactions.

No pending transactions from JetBrains?

If your card issuer has no pending transactions from JetBrains, it means the payment was blocked before it even reached them. This often happens if 3D Secure isn’t enabled.

→ Wrong security code for American Express

When paying with American Express, be sure to use the 4-digit code on the front of the card, not the numbers on the back.

→ You’re redirected to a page to enter a one-time code

If you’re asked for a code sent to your phone, that step comes from your bank. It’s part of their fraud checks, and they’ll send the code to the phone number they have on file. If you’re having trouble getting or entering the code, please contact your card issuer for help.

→ Error message while abroad or using a VPN

If you get an error while using a VPN, try disabling it and then repeat the payment.

If you’re temporarily in another country and can’t complete your payment, please contact us.

→ You’re located in sanctioned territories

Your payment may be rejected due to regulatory requirements. JetBrains cannot do business with or accept payments from individuals or organizations under sanctions, or from territories restricted by the European Union, United Nations, or the United States of America.

JetBrains resellers

You can purchase JetBrains products through authorized resellers in your country. This option is available for annual subscriptions, both personal and commercial.

Personal subscriptions through resellers aren't available in the United States.

Purchase order

Organizations can also pay via purchase order. We can issue a proforma invoice upon request. If you’d like to use this option, please contact us.
