What is the difference between commercial and personal licenses?
JetBrains has two main types of paid licenses: commercial (for businesses) and personal (for individual use). Here’s how they differ.
Commercial licenses
Commercial licenses are for companies and other business entities. They’re bought by the company and can be used by any one employee, contractor, or other individual the license is assigned to.
You can reassign a commercial license within the company, as long as just one person is using it at a time.
Personal licenses
Personal licenses are for individuals who pay for them with their own funds. You can use your license for anything, but it’s just for you – you can’t share, transfer, or reassign it.
Businesses can’t buy or cover the cost of personal licenses.
Other licensing options
JetBrains also offers free licensing for non-commercial use and free community licenses for eligible users in academic, open-source, and other development communities.
