AI subscription: AI Assistant cannot be used without IDE license

Symptoms

The purchased AI subscription cannot be used as the IDE license is missing from the account. AI access is expected to be included with the AI subscription.

Environment

• Customer type: All customers
• Region: All regions
• Product: AI tools

Cause

An AI Pro or AI Ultimate subscription provides access only to AI features. It does not include a license for JetBrains IDEs. JetBrains AI tools can only be used with a supported JetBrains IDE that has an active license. It cannot be used with expired IDE licenses.

Resolution

1. Make sure there's an active license for the desired IDE
2. Activate both the IDE and the AI Subscription in the IDE
3. If there's no active IDE license, a purchase or renewal is required before using JetBrains AI tools
4. If the purchase of an IDE license is not desired, the auto-renewal should be cancelled in the account
5. AI subscriptions and AI Credits are non-refundable in accordance with the JetBrains Refund Policy.
